Last year, Ginjah promised 2025 would hear him singing more songs for the ladies. He keeps his word with ‘Sweet Like Sugar’, produced by Tad Dawkins for Tad’s International Record.

It is one of 22 tracks on ‘Reggae Party Time’, a compilation album from that independent label. They are driven by the beat of the classic song of the same name by The Heptones.

“‘Sweet Like Sugar’ is a lovers' rock song that fits perfectly over the Party Time riddim. Great melody and full of lyrics, so it fits perfectly with my image,” said Ginjah.

‘Sweet Like Sugar’ is the follow-up to ‘Once Again’, a ballad that closed 2024 with a flourish for the veteran singer. He said it suits his reputation as The Reggae Soul Man which is the name of his 2023 album.

While he made his name recording songs with social themes, Ginjah got sound advice early in his career from one of lovers rock reggae’s greatest exponents.

“My teacher Beres Hammond always told me that singing for the ladies you can’t go wrong, so I’m sure about this path,” he said.

Ginjah was once signed to Hammond’s Harmony House label. He recorded several songs for that camp as well as toured Europe and North America with Hammond.

His next album, ‘Soul Attraction’, is scheduled for release this year by Tad’s International Record.
