Garrette & Axel Stand Up

Before taking a break from music to complete academic studies, pop/reggae duo Garrette & Axel had recorded a handful of songs which made it on their EP, “Better Late Than Never”, which was released last summer.

Those songs have showed staying power. One of them, “Stand Up”, is currently number 25 on The Foundation Radio Network Top 30 Music Chart (NY).

It is co-produced by the duo and Mightyful13 Records. Last week, the single moved up two places on the chart, an encouraging development for the duo who are from Jamaica and The Philippines, but live in New York City.

Garrette, who is from Kingston, commented on what it means.

“Honestly, it feels good because ‘Stand Up’ as well as other songs such as ‘Beautiful’, our lead single off our first EP ‘Better Late Than Never’ was recorded about five years ago. The songs were just left to be stored on the computer without any intention of ever being released,” he disclosed.

After their scholastic hiatus, Garrette & Axel had a change of heart and released the songs. The response to date has been strong, with “Stand Up” being appropriate in the era of Covid-19.

“Stand up is that song that can encourage someone not to give up and that there is always a calm after the storm, so hold on and keep fighting, never give up and never forget to put love at the forefront of everything,” said Garrette.

They plan to record and release new music for the summer.
