It’s the ominous phone call everyone dreads. That a relative or dear friend has died.
On March 2, that’s what happened to Rishardo “DJ Treasure” Treasure. He was informed that his sister, popular YouTube host Nicola Campbell, was murdered outside her home in Kingston.
The 36 year-old mother of three children was older than him by two years. She was his only sibling and best friend.
In her honor, he wrote and produced “Cyaa Believe”, a song performed by singjay Pipelyne.
“We were very close. She had a love for her three daughters…she would move the world for them,” said DJ Treasure.
A hospital registration clerk, Nicola Campbell was a vlogger hosted “Nicola Campbell’s Journey” on the YouTube Channel. It focused on her and her three daughters, and had loyal viewership.
Police report that Campbell was walking home when a gunman shot and killed her. No arrests have been made.
DJ Treasure was a sound system selector and mixtape pitchman for several years before moving into music production, working with singers like Rad Dixon.
Nicola Campbell’s death took place during a frightening period of homicides in Jamaica. Police there disclose that over 300 murders have been recorded in the Caribbean country in 2021.
