Demola, Ken Boothe for Rhythms Of Africa

Two artists representing different generations of music will give special performances at Rhythms Of Africa, scheduled for Miramar Cultural Center on August 26-27 in Miramar, South Florida.

Demola, a fast-rising Nigerian violinist based in Houston, Texas, and Ken Boothe, one of Jamaica’s most influential singers, are the event’s featured acts. ‘Music To My Ears’ is the title of this year’s show.

Willie Stewart, the master drummer who first staged Rhythms Of Africa in 2010, is again at the helm. He said Demola was selected because he “electrifies audiences with his energy and professionalism.”

The musician has made a name as a live and recording artist, especially since the release of ‘Classics With Demola’, his 2021 album. That set includes viola interpretations of neo-soul hits like ‘I Wanna Know’ by Joe and ‘Can We Talk’ by Tevin Campbell.

“This will be his first time performing in Florida and it will be a treat. We are happy and excited to bring such high-end quality artists and musicians to do special guest appearances,” said Stewart.

Demola’s musicianship will be complemented by the distinctive vocals of the 76 year-old Boothe, whose weighty catalog of songs includes classics such as ‘Just Another Girl’, ‘Freedom Street’, ‘Crying Over You’ and ‘Everything I Own’.

“He is an incredible songwriter with a unique, creative signature voice that holds you. I know the audience will be excited to see him perform and we will all honor him,” said Stewart, the former drummer for Third World who played on their biggest hits including ‘Try Jah Love’ and ‘Now That We Found Love’.
