Always looking to do something different as an artist, Trinidadian singer De Postman was pumped when Jamaican producer Dennis Johnson approached him to contribute a song to his Soca Jam EP.
The thought of collaborating with a reggae producer was appealing, and he cut ‘Palm D Ting’ for Finatic Records, Johnson’s South Florida-based label.
“Medley, one of my artist friends, gave me the riddim and Dennis’ number. I called Dennis and we decided to do ‘Palm D Ting’ together,” De Postman disclosed.
‘Palm D Ting’ is one of five songs on the ‘Soca Jam EP’ which was released in late 2025. It also has songs by Grub Cooper, Honorebel and Mr. Easy, accompanied by the instrumental track.
De Postman, who lives in Brooklyn, New York, plans to pitch ‘Palm D Ting’ to soca fans in Trinidad when he heads home in February for Trinidad Carnival. The main events for that annual extravaganza are scheduled for February 13-17.
Originally from the town of Sangre Grande in northeastern Trinidad, De Postman has been a recording artist for 25 years. He has performed at Carnival in his homeland, as well as in New York City, Washington DC and Florida.
Nothing compares to the Trini spectacle.
“Carnival is highly competitive, (there’s) a lot of good talent and the opportunity for local success is limited,” said De Postman.
In addition to ‘Palm D Ting’, he has ‘Oh Na Na’, ‘Soca Army’ and ‘Riot’ on the market.
