Sean Paul, Shaggy and Spice are turning out to be the hottest ticket in dancehall/reggae this summer. The trio are scheduled to appear on the Jimmy Kimmel Show June 15, four days after performing as part of Good Morning America’s summer concert series.
They are making a massive push to break their song, “Go Down Deh”, in the United States. The single, which is co-produced by Shaggy and distributed by VP Records, has done well in smaller European markets.
Sean Paul and Shaggy are considered elder statesmen of dancehall, given their Grammy wins for Best Reggae Album and international success with songs like “Gimme The Light”, “Temperature”, “Boombastic” and “It Wasn’t Me”.
Spice, a protégé of Vybz Kartel, is seen by many as the successor to Lady Saw who left secular music six years ago to focus on a gospel career as Minister Marion Hall.
While she is known in dancehall circles for songs such as “Romping Shop” (with Kartel), “Inches” and “Needle Eye”, Spice has yet to make an impact on American mainstream markets. The deejay, however, won over African-American fans for her role in the hit reality television show, “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta”.
“Ten”, Spice’s debut album, is scheduled for release by VP Records in July.
