Growing up in the tough Maxfield Avenue area of Kingston, dancer/deejay Crazyhype saw first-hand the negatives crime had on inner-city youth. Now living in Berlin, Germany, he projects a positive message to them with the song, "Father Forgive Me".
Produced by Dead Rabbit, it is accompanied by a graphic 10-minute video Crazyhype hopes will convince impressionable youth to stay away from crime.
"Well, as a young youth in Jamaica violence/crime is something you grow with and the Dons are mainly people that we admire and look up to, so I was also influenced by that life but my mother and big sister decided that l have to leave that community and this was how I could actually escape that life," he reflected.
He added that, "The message I want to bring in this song is that Almighty God is the only way and that all of us should stay prayed-up and try to leave the negativity behind."
Crazyhype started his career as a dancer with the group, MOB, in 2006. After six years, he switched to music by releasing songs like "Brace" and "MVP".
Though he is settled in Germany, Crazyhype never forgets the challenges of urban life in his country which helped shape his persona and career.
"Jamaica has improved a lot in terms of roads, buildings and lifestyle. I think the government is doing well but can do more to curb violence which is the number one problem; this have to be curbed with education, more jobs and freedom of the reggae/dancehall culture which is to free the people," he reasoned.
