‘Classeeks’, singer Carl Meeks’ latest album, is scheduled for release on December 12. Produced by Cedrik Ynesta, it contains 13 songs recorded on classic dancehall beats from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
This is the second album of 2025 from Meeks. The first was ‘Legendary’ which came out in April.
He and Ynesta agreed to do an album with songs on timeless beats like Mr. Bassie, Throw mi Corn, Billie Jean and Shine Eye Girl. Several of the songs are collaborations with fellow veterans like Papa Michigan, Johnny P and Screechy Dan.
“He (Ynesta) wanted to capture the younger audience and let the older ones indulge in the new songs on these riddims. Wi select the artists knowing that they are vintage singers just like the riddims and also artists I admired,” Meeks disclosed.
‘What’s Going On’, a collaboration with Screechy Dan, is currently being promoted. Some of the songs from ‘Classeeks’ have been previously released, including ‘No Regrets’, ‘Ram Dance Master (featuring Johnny P), and ‘Walking Dead’ (with Derrick Parker).
The Kingston-born Meeks emerged during the 1980s with a unique vocal style. He is best known for dancehall standards like ‘Weh Dem Fah’ and ‘Youthman’ which were produced by Hugh “Redman” James, one of the most successful producers of that era.
