Celcius and Friends say a Prayer For Your Land
Last July as the world struggled for an answer to the deadly Coronavirus, singer Celcius wrote the first lines of what became “Prayer For Your Land”, a poignant song released on March 27. He is accompanied by Thriller U, Singing Melody, Gem Myers, Isha Blender and Sean Austin.
Produced by Troyton Music, “Prayer For Your Land” is a cry to help those suffering, or are in danger of contracting the disease, which has killed millions of people worldwide.
Celcius has been personally affected by the pandemic.
“I wrote the song when two things happened to me. I was to represent Jamaica at the World Champion of The Performing Arts in California and Covid-19 caused the event to be cancelled, then the pandemic took the life of my sister who was living in England. She had two kids, so that motivated me to pen the song,” he disclosed.
Rather than go solo, Celcius reached out to colleagues who agreed to join him on “Prayer For Your Land”. They were guided by Troyton Hinds, known for his work with Tarrus Riley and Mavado.
Celcius, who is from Kingston, Jamaica’s capital, has been recording for over 10 years.
Jamaica has a frightening Coronavirus death rate. As of April 1, the country had recorded over 600 deaths and almost 40,000 cases. The situation has forced the government to institute a rigid islandwide curfew.
