Known for foot-stomping gospel-reggae songs, Brotha George went for a different feel on ‘My King’, his latest recording which is a collaboration with Mesha Steele from Belize. It is co-produced by Sidney Mills and Andre “Dretegs” Hawthorne.
Released last December, ‘My King’ is a somber take on a troubled world.
“I was inspired to write this song because of what I see happening in this world today. People are going through a lot; no love, no caring,” said Brotha George.
He was introduced to Steele by Hawthorne, a keyboardist who also played on ‘My King’. She recently did a collaboration (‘Touch di Road’) with veteran deejay Flourgon and has opened shows for Beres Hammond and Tarrus Riley.
Steele felt at home recording a spiritual song.
“I’ve been a believer my entire life, but this marks my first recorded gospel song. My experience working in the studio with various gospel singers led to this duet with Brotha George, and I’m excited to share it with the world,” she said.
Brotha George started his career as dancehall singer George Wright in the late 1970s in his native Jamaica. He became a Christian after migrating to the United States over 25 years ago and has released a number of gospel albums and singles.
‘Mindset’ and ‘Firm And Strong’ are the titles of his previous albums.
