Brotha George calls for peace in 'Bloody City'

With 2020 being such a tumultuous year, there has been no shortage of material for artists like Brotha George to write. He calls for hope amid the calamity on "Bloody City", his latest song.

Released last week, "Bloody City" is co-produced by Sidney Mills and Leebert "Gibby" Morrison who worked in a similar capacity on "Unstoppable", Brotha George's album which came out early this year.

"This song looking at what going on around the globe. There is so much unhappiness and so many innocent lives being lost we need songs of hope," he said.

The Connecticut-based Brotha George is among the millions of people horrified by the racially-charged deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd in Kentucky and Minnesota this year. He also keeps in touch with developments in his native Jamaica where the murder rate is high.

Born George Wright, Brotha George empathizes with persons who feel oppressed by law enforcement and the 'system', having grown up in an economically-challenged area in Kingston.

"It was hard and rough but not like now. What we are trying to show with 'Bloody City' is, is one blood all of us have," he said.

Brotha George began his career in Jamaica in 1978 as a secular artist but  since 2003 when he released the album, "My Soul is in Your Hands", he has done inspirational music. "Unstoppable" is his 10th album.

It contains the songs "Christian Soldier" (with Shelly Thunder), "Only You Alone" and "My God is The King".
