Former Aswad singer/guitarist Brinsley Forde's second solo album will be released early next year. Titled "The Tuff Gong Sessions", it will be distributed by the Dutch company, Jahsolidrock Music.
That independent label also released Forde's first solo album, "Urban Jungle", in 2013.
Dennis "Ras Denco" Blackson, one of the principals of Jahsolidrock Music, said "The Tuff Gong Sessions" is so named because it was recorded at the famed Marley-owned studio in Kingston.
It includes collaborations with (the late) Akae Beka, and Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt. Saxophonist Dean Frasier and the original Aswad horn section played on the album.
Forde, 67, was born in London to Guyanese parents. He was a founder of Aswad which was a dominant force in British reggae from the 1970s to the mid-1990s. The band's hit songs include "Just A Little Herb", "I Need Your Love", and "Don't Turn Around".
He left the band in 1996.
Jahsolidrock Music is based in Amsterdam. Operated by Ras Denco and Marc Barroner, the label has released albums, EPs and songs by Chezidek, Addis Pablo and Micah and Ras Teo.
