‘Love From A Distance’, a virtual concert starring lovers rock great Beres Hammond, is one of the closing events for Reggae Month in Jamaica. The show is scheduled for February 28 at 9 pm (EST).
It will be Hammond’s first solo virtual concert. It has the support of VP Records, the company that has distributed most of his albums and the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, in Jamaica.
‘Love From A Distance’ will be streamed on Hammond’s Facebook page (www.fcebook.com/bereshamondofficial), VP Records’ YouTube page
(www.youtube.com/vprecords) and in Jamaica and several other social media platforms.
A statement from VP said, “The free event was conceived by Mr. Hammond as a gift to fans during the COVID 19 lock-downs that have kept him away from the stage for almost a year.”
Hammond reached out to fans to ensure their safety in troubled times.
“Let’s stay apart to stay together. You have inspired me after not being with you for over a year. The best thing we can do is love from a distance,” he said.
Olivia “Babsy” Grange, Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, hailed the Hammond initiative.
“When the likes of Beres Hammond steps forward in this way, you know we are doing something right. This kind of collaboration is good for the music and Jamaica,” she stated.
Chris Chin, CEO of VP Records, said, “We’re excited to be a part of this event.”
Reggae Month started January 31 with a church service in Kingston. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, some of the traditional events celebrating the period, were cancelled. Others were held virtually.
