On March 27, singer Autarchii is among the artists who will perform on 'Sound System Club Presents --- Firehouse Crew and Friends Tribute to King Tubbys 32 Years Since His Passing', a virtual show celebrating the legendary Jamaican audio engineer.
Though in his late 20s, Autarchii is aware of King Tubby's (Osbourne Ruddock) accomplishments. He was murdered in Kingston in February, 1989.
"Due to my love affair with music I have extensive knowledge of King Tubby, from his sound system, Tubby's HomeTown Hi-Fi, to his exceptional productions and technical abilities. One of my mentors, Wayne Smith, who came from Waterhouse and was a musical offspring of Jammy's, continuously told me stories about both of them," said Autarchii.
The event will be streamed live from King Jammy's studio in Waterhouse, a stone's throw from where Tubby operated his famed recording facility. Dean Fraser, Anthony Redrose, Thriller U, Turbulence and Duane Stephenson are also scheduled to perform.
Autarchii, who enjoyed a strong year with the song "Black Beauty", is the son of veteran singer Donovan Joseph. He gave his take on the treatment of stalwart entertainment figures in Jamaica.
"Being the son of Donovan Joseph, I think the veterans get a lot of recognition worldwide but just not from their own in Jamaica, which is a shame," he said.
