Even with 40 years in the music business, Anthony Malvo still has bouts of writer’s block. After a recent recovery from his latest shutout, the singer came up with a song he believes is a winner.
‘Bye Bye Loneliness’ is the name of the single which was released in January. It is produced by Lloyd “John John” James.
“This song came to me after fasting for 21 days and asking God for a song. It’s trending to be a hit, and I believe it has the potential to resonate with many people,” said a confident Malvo.
‘Bye Bye Loneliness’ is recorded on the ‘riddim’ that made Pat Kelly’s ‘Talk About Love’ and ‘Undercover Lover’ by Josey Wales hits during the 1980s, when Malvo was making the rounds on sound systems like Black Star in his hometown of August Town in St Andrew, Jamaica.
In 1987, he hit the big time with ‘Come Back To Me’, a collaboration with Tiger. A cover of The Deele’s ‘Two Occasions’ that song not only topped reggae charts for multiple weeks, but revived Tiger’s career.
Malvo says while it remains his biggest hit, he has never allowed that track to define him.
“‘Come Back to Me’ with Tiger was a big hit, but it wasn’t an original song. In contrast, ‘Bye Bye Loneliness’ is an original song that holds special meaning for me,” he noted.
Following ‘Come Back To Me’, Malvo established himself with hits like ‘Greatest Girl Lover’ (with Daddy Lizard) and a cover of Peabo Bryson’s ‘Can You Stop The Rain’.
