Born in Hamilton, Canada to Guyanese parents, Aneesa Badshaw represents her Indo-Guyana heritage whether she models, acts or sings. 

She does a little of each in the video for her song "Hot Gyal Sum", which was released in May. Its visual came out in October. 

In anything she does, the 25 year-old insists Guyana is never far away. 

"To be honest, I've always wanted to create my own style and I figured that I should bring something new and different to the Guyanese scene. Wherever I go I do represent Guyana to the fullest; I want my country to be put on the map for music, because there's so many hidden talents in Guyana, we just need that extra push," she said. 

"Hot Gyal Sum" is produced by Journey Music out of Toronto. It is Badshaw's second featured single; her first, "Wine Up", a collaboration with Ebony Stone, was released last year. 

Prior to recording, she did some modeling and appeared in music videos for several acts including Sean Paul. While a fan of hip hop and soca, Badshaw has a preference for Jamaican music. 

Because of the meteoric rise of superstar rapper Drake, the Toronto hip hop circuit gets mega attention, but dancehall holds its own.  

"I'd say the hip hop scene is definitely way bigger than the dancehall scene sadly, but we do have wicked jams over here," said Badshaw.  

One of her upcoming projects is a role in the independent movie, "Fall Of Revenge", alongside Paul Campbell, Louie Rankin and Jahvillani.
