It has been two years since roots singer Rad Dixon’s debut album dropped. His long-awaited follow-up is scheduled for release in early 2026.
‘Africa Calling Calling’ is the title of that set. Like ‘Hard Times’, his first album, it is produced by Tasjay Productions.
Although built around previously-released message songs such as ‘Know Yourself’, ‘Trodding’ and ‘Cry of My People’, Dixon promised that there “is a little something for everybody” on ‘Africa Calling Calling’.
The Rastafarian singer is from Manchester, a rural parish in central Jamaica that has produced pioneer musicians such as guitarist Ernie Ranglin and bandleader Byron Lee. It was also the heartbeat of the roots-reggae rebirth of the early 1990s, led by native sons Garnet Silk, Tony Rebel, Kulcha Knox and Luciano.
That movement had a strong impact on Dixon, whose recording career started 25 years ago. Most of his songs, including ‘Sweet Caroline’, ‘Write Your Name’ and ‘Baby Don’t Worry’, are produced by Tasjay Productions.
