As a father, Aaron Silk dotes on his kids and shares the sorrow of parents who lose their children. He empathizes particularly with mothers who carry a child for nine months only for them to be tragically taken away.
That grief can be heard on ‘Painful Birth (A Mother’s Cry) ’, the latest song from the veteran singer. Released on September 8, it is written and produced by Michael Orrett.
“This song is not just about pain — it’s about purpose,” says Aaron Silk. “It’s for every mother who has buried a child too soon. It’s for every community worn down by loss. But more than that, it’s a promise: their lives matter, their names will be remembered, and their deaths must lead to change.”
To help promote the song, Aaron Silk filmed a heart-rending video starring Audrey Reid of ‘Dancehall Queen’ fame. She depicts a mother whose teenage son is gunned down accidentally shortly after he spoke to her at home.
The younger brother of Garnet Silk, Aaron Silk, has made a name for himself by releasing a number of socially aware songs over the past 30 years. Those songs include ‘Blessed Rise Empress’, ‘Babylon Falling’ and a cover of ‘Oh Me Oh My’, one of his siblings’ biggest hit songs.
Garnet Silk died in December 1994 at age 28 in a fire at his mother’s house in rural Manchester parish, central Jamaica.
