A Psalm for Sone

Jamaican artist Sone won Best International Psalmist of The Year award at the sixth Antigua and Barbuda Gospel Music & Media Awards, held October 24 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St. John’s, Antigua.

Sone was cited for a raft of quality he released in 2020 including the motivational “Overcome”. “Miss Jamaica”, “God is For Real” and “Solid Rock”.

He welcomed the recognition.

“This is huge because the ABGMA is a prestigious award that many top artists have won. More importantly though, it shows that the music is reaching individuals and is also appreciated,” he said. “2020 has been a very unique year and also a year where a lot was accomplished; working hard and putting in the effort to ensure relevance and to grow as an artiste. We are seeing that now with this award.”

Sone is from the fishing village of Rocky Point in Clarendon parish, central Jamaica. That area has produced dancehall acts such as Cocoa Tea. His family owned a sound system which introduced him to dancehall culture, but since 2006 he has been doing inspirational music.
