Nine years after releasing her first song, Mye Laurell is back on the music scene with a cover of Diana Ross’ ‘It’s My House’, produced by Richie Stephens. It was released in May.

The New York City-based singer returned to the recording studio after receiving enthusiastic response to her rendition of ‘Greatest Love Of All’ with Gem Myers at the Queens Of Reggae Island Honorary Ceremony (QORIHC) in Kingston, Jamaica, last year.

A registered nurse, she founded that show nine years ago to honor women in the entertainment industry.

“Folks knew me as a nurse,e but never saw the entertainment connection behind me as an entertainment award founder. My previous song, ‘Night Nurse’, was released in 2016, only four months before the first QORIHC,” said Mye Laurell. “It took a backseat as the QORIHC became very demanding to pull off, and I never sang again publicly until QORIHC 2024.”

Although it is one of Ross’ biggest solo hits, Mya Laurell admits she never heard ‘It’s My House’ until Stephens played it for her. He said her vocals bore similarities to the legendary singer, and within weeks of agreeing to work together, she recorded a reggae version of the classic dance number, which was released in 1979.

Mye Laurell plans to record and release additional songs in 2025.
