This year, Trojan Records will celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Double Barrel", the reggae song that went number one in the United Kingdom in 1971.
Caeshia St. Paul, the British company's marketing manager, said Dave Barker and Ansell Collins who did "Double Barrel", will be part of celebratory activities.
They are to be presented with Number One Awards to mark the occasion. A Number One Award is given to artist(s) whenever they top the British pop chart by the Official Charts Company. Barker and Collins did not receive any 50 years ago.
In March, The Netherlands-based company Music On Vinyl, is scheduled to release a commemorative edition of "Double Barrel".
The song was created by Collins who also played keyboards. It featured an 18 year-old drummer named Sly Dunbar and Barker's James Brown-like vocals.
Winston Riley is credited as writer and producer though Collins has argued otherwise over the years.
"Double Barrel" went number one for two weeks in May, 1971. It was released in the UK at a time when reggae continued to find a market there among white youth and first generation Britons of West Indian heritage.
Collins and Barker, who are from Kingston, had a follow-up hit in the UK with "Monkey Spanner".
