Causion, Antigua’s Reggae Ambassador, will release his latest EP on June 24 at Tribeca Restaurant & Lounge in Miramar, South Florida. The project’s title is ‘Tropical State of Mind’.
It contains the title song, ‘Caribbean Vacation’ and ‘Sunny Day’. The latter is the official theme for Antigua’s latest tourism campaign.
“The songs were actually recorded over a period of time, and the concept was a tropical state of mind. After we started writing some of these songs, we realized that we were writing and producing a set of songs that were putting us into that frame of mind, so that’s how the idea was born,” Causion explained.
Like most of his songs, the singer co-produced the EP with Maurice Gregory, a veteran keyboardist known for his work with Third World. ‘Tropical State Of Mind’ is his second EP, following ‘Mission In Progress’, which came out in 2023.
“The difference between the other projects, is this particular project we were focusing on a space that is totally about relaxing and enjoying the elements of nature, and the wonderful things that this place could offer someone,” Causion explained.
While Antiguans are known to prefer Calypso and soca, Causion was raised on the music of Jamaican reggae greats like Third World and Culture.
In recent years, he has collaborated with Elite Island Resorts to promote Antigua as a tourist destination in the competitive Caribbean market.
