D’Mack gives a little love

As someone who cut his teeth as a musician in Toronto, singer D’Mack makes no apologies for his love of classic reggae, which he believes still has universal appeal. That is the sound that drives ‘Give A Little Love’, his latest song.

Released on November 14, he co-produced it with Aubrey Manning, drummer for The Abyssinians.

“I consider my artistry to be reggae/lovers rock and pop/reggae. Reggae on a whole is missing conscious lyrics and creativity, this is why I sing lyrics such as this to remind both young and mature audiences that there is still great reggae music,” said D’Mack.

‘Give A Little Love’, done to the melody of Alton Ellis’ timeless ‘Breaking Up is Hard to Do’, is his first song for 2024. He got the track from Danny Breakenridge, a mainstay of the South Florida reggae circuit, then called in Manning to help on production.

D’Mack and Manning also co-produced ‘Jealous’, the singer’s previous single which came out in September 2023.

Originally from Portland parish in eastern Jamaica, D’Mack migrated to Canada as a teenager. He made his name as a keyboardist with Possebility, a band that played in popular Toronto reggae venues such as The Bamboo, Club Paradise, and The Concert Hall.

His contemporaries in Canada included Jackie Mittoo and Leroy Sibbles, Leroy Gibbons, Neville Francis, and Prince Everold.
