Girls ride on Zekedon’s Bumpa Truck

Zekedon has covered a lot of ground during his time in the music business, as an artist and selector. With “Bumpa Truck”, his latest song, he is ready for the big time.

Released in April, the single features singer SH3ENI and is driven by the beat of “Thong Song”, a massive hit for Sisqo in the summer of 2000. It’s that retro feel the Brooklyn-born rapper/deejay is counting on to send him up the pop charts.

“A lot of the youths wouldn’t remember it (“Thong Song”) but it was a big club anthem for the ladies. This song kinda remind them of those days,” said Zekedon.

The South Florida-raised artist was a clubber at the time “Thong Song” was rocking parties around the world. He and producer Junior Taxi agreed it would be a good idea to revisit the concept of ladies with well-shaped derrieres enjoying themselves, especially with summer approaching.

The song has got the thumbs-up from none other than Busta Rhymes, who nodded his approval to “Bumpa Truck” and its raunchy video. That acknowledgement from one of hip hop’s giants is a big deal for Zekedon who, like the famous rapper, was born in New York to Jamaican parents.

“He’s one of the legends of the game, one of the GOATS! Knowing that Busta is from the Caribbean, I think it connected to his ears,” he said.

The nephew of singer/songwriter and musician Annette Brissett, Zekedon has been recording “for a while”, but toured as a selector with Mr. Vegas for eight years before concentrating full-time on his career. His previous songs include “A1 Class” and “Likkle Weh yuh Gi” which did well on dancehall/reggae charts.

Zekedon is confident “Bumpa Truck” will be the song that defines his career.

“It can definitely be the big breakthrough that I’ve been waiting for. It has the international sound; it’s a classical record that the elders love and the kids love it. It’s a party song that the girls can go outside and shake their bumpers,” he said.
