Mr. D serves Pum Pum Yam

The remarkable success of sprinter Usain Bolt not only placed the spotlight on Jamaican athletics, but the country's production of yams, the starchy vegetable Bolt jokingly credits for his amazing speed.

Singer Mr. D is also a big fan of yams --- the Pum Pum variety. So much so he pays homage to Jamaican women on "Pum Pum Yam", his first song.

Recently released by Zojak World Wide, "Pum Pum Yam" carries the Jamaican slang for female genitalia which makes it a bit risque.

Mr. D, however, said there is nothing offensive.

"I know it will raise eyebrows, but no matter what you sing (it) will raise eyebrows. I'm just renovating my culture," notes the wiry vocalist, who is from Kingston, the Jamaican capital.

Mr. D is a longtime resident of Atlanta. He has been writing songs since he was 17; artists such as The Silvertones and Robert "Magnificent" Graham are among the acts he has written for.

Influenced by Alton Ellis, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown and John Holt, Mr. D plans to release an album in 2021.
